Car Accident

After 25 years of being accident free, my streak has come to an end. I was in my first car accident last Thursday.

Luckily no one was hurt and it wasn't my fault, so lucky for us our insurance isn't going to take the hit. It was pouring down rain because apparently Mother Nature thought it was a great day to be a bitch to our state and it was flooding every where. So I was already going pretty slow, but the person in front of me started to slow down because the upcoming intersection was flooding. So I started to slow down even more. I then looked in my rear view mirror and saw that the person behind me wasn't slowing down. And I just remember saying to myself "They are going to hit me" and then BAM! She rear ended me.

It wasn't a very hard hit, but it was enough to jar the car forward. So we both pulled over into the middle turn lane and turned on our hazards. Like I said it was pouring down rain, so I got out of my car with my umbrella in hand and went back to talk to the other driver. While I was standing there and getting her information, all of the cars on the opposite side of the road were spraying me with water. I think some of them were doing it on purpose because they weren't even slowing down. By the time I got all of her information and got back in my car, I was completely soaked from head to toe. Awesome!

Once we got home and got the car in the garage and out of the rain, we looked at the damage. There wasn't a ton. It is more cosmetic than anything, but we still filed a claim and are going to have it looked at because if something is broken on the bumper where it attaches to the car or something else like that, we don't want to have any issues down the road. Better safe than sorry. And when you see the pictures you are probably going to think that we are crazy for filing a claim for something so small. Trust me, I had a really hard time deciding if I should even file one, but I just want to make sure that nothing is broken that we can't physically see. Especially since this is the only car that we have at this point!

It was a very minor accident, but it was the first one I had ever been in, so of course I was a bit shaken up. I am just happy that no one was hurt and that our car has very minimal damage.

  1. BOOOO accidents suck! Glad you're okay though...I've been in too many fender benders than I like to remember. I actually got voted Worst Driver as my high school superlative.

  2. Accidents are the worst! I think I had my first at 16, maybe 4 or 5 months after I got my license? Luckily they've all been minor and few and far between!!! Glad you're fine, and it looks like the car is too for the most part!

  3. Glad it was really minor, but still annoying - and in the pouring rain too! I wouldn't think twice about filing a claim, that is what insurance is for!

  4. I would TOTALLY file a claim. You did the right thing. Get it fixed on her dime of course. It wasn't your fault!!
