Pray for Colorado!

Remember last summer when my beautiful state of Colorado was ravaged by wildfires? Specifically the Waldo Canyon Fire? I do! It was awful! I couldn't believe what my town was going through and I felt so badly for those that lost their homes and belongings in that fire. It was one of the worst things this town has ever experienced and one of the worst things I have ever experienced in my 25 years of living in this town.

Well once again this summer, we are having to deal with the wildfires. Currently we have at least five wildfires burning and all but one of them started yesterday. It has been so hot and dry here and we are already in a drought and all these conditions are just making it not look like a good summer for us.

One of the fires is about 10 miles Northeast of my house. It's awful. They are estimating (as of 10 pm last night) that 40-60 structures have already been lost. And who knows how many animals are out there that couldn't escape. It's just heart breaking. And to see the smoke plume just getting bigger and bigger, it just makes my stomach hurt.

How awful would it be to see this on the news and have to say "That's my house!"

And I personally know three guys that are fire fighters that are out there putting their lives on the line to keep this thing from spreading even more than it has. And I am worried sick. I just keep hoping that I hear from one of them soon or that they put a status up on Facebook or something to let us know that they are okay. It's nerve wracking enough knowing that this thing is spreading and that people are losing their homes. But to know people that are putting themselves out there to try and save other people's lives and homes, it is really hard not to get worried about them.

One of my friends who is out there fighting the fire. He saved this fawn! And as of 12 midnight, he had posted on Facebook that he was okay and would be going back out this morning! Whew!
Another one of the fires is way South of us, but it is threatening a historical site called the Royal Gorge Bridge. This bridge is a big tourist place, but it is part of our State and our history and to see that it is being threatened by the fire and could potentially be gone by morning, it's heart breaking. We used to go there all the time when I was younger and to think that it could be gone in the blink of the eye is just the worst.

What's even harder right now is sitting back and listening to people around the country complaining about how they are getting nothing but rain and they are tired of it. And I get it. When you have had so much of one particular type of weather, it does get irritating. But, I would much rather have your rain right now than to see my state burning down.

My state needs your thoughts and prayers more than ever right now. And so do all those individuals that have lost their homes or pets and all those that are out trying to stop these horrible fires. So please send your thoughts and prayers to Colorado. And Mother Nature, we would appreciate some cooler weather and some precipitation. Thanks in advance everyone.
