Heading Home

Monday is already here. What happened to my 10 day vacation? Oh yeah, I had a blast, so of course it flew by. I am now on an airplane on my way back home.

I am happy and sad at the same time. Happy that I get to see my Husband and my fur babies soon, but sad that I had to leave my best friend. I didn't realize how much I missed her til I got to spend 10 days with her. And now the best friend withdrawals are going to begin and it is going to suck! And also sad that I have to go back to work! Ugh!

Anywho, I will try to get back into the blogging thing as soon as possible, but I am making no promises. I know that work is going to be crazy when I get back and I am sure that things will be crazy at home too. So as soon as I get some time to sit down and write out some recap posts, I will get them up. Luckily I kept kind of a journal while I was gone so that I wouldn't forget anything when I go to write my posts.

Well that is all I have for you guys. Hope you guys have a great Monday. And hopefully I will be back to blogging regularly here soon!

Meet The Husband

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you guys are enjoying your week.

I realized a few weeks ago that you guys have never really met the Husband. Yes, I talk about him and the things that we do in our lives, but I have never really introduced you to him. So why not have him guest post for me while I am on vacation. Well, kinda. He didn't want to actually write a post (party pooper) because he wasn't sure what he would say, so instead I decided to do a Q & A session/interview so that you guys could get to know him a little bit. So without further adieu, meet Aran. The Husband.

Q: How old are you?
A: "32." Said the liar! "Fine. Okay. I am 26."

Q: What is your College degree in?
A: "Communication with an emphasis on Recording Arts."

Q: When did you know that your Wife was the one?
A: "About two months after we started dating."

Q: What is your favorite TV show?
A: "Firefly."

Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: "Casablanca." Even though I would have guessed he would have said Star Wars. You learn something new every day.

Q: What is your favorite sport?
A: "Baseball."

Q: What is one thing that you do that drives Megan, your amazing Wife, absolutely crazy?
A: "Just one thing? Ummmmmm..............telling you to watch where you are walking."

Q: Have you ever been told that you look like someone? And who?
A: "Yes. I once had someone tell me that I looked like Jimmy Stewart and also Scotty McCreery."

Q: If you could be any Star Wars character, who would you be?
A: "Hans Solo cause he's a scruffy nerf herder."

Q: Favorite game of all time?
A: "Sonic 2 on the Sega Genesis."

Q: Do you have any nicknames?
A: "Yes. Biggs." And there is no real story/reason behind how he got this nickname. Maybe because he is tall. They just started calling him this at work one day and it stuck.

Q: Who is your favorite band?
A: "Less Than Jake."

Q: Do you have any special or hidden talents?
A: "Playing guitar. Pushing my Wife's buttons and I can do character and accent voices.

And there you have it folks. My Husband. He can be an absolute goof ball at times, but I love him. And he is mine.

Do you have any other questions you are just dying to know the answer to? I would love to hear what they are. If I get enough, I will definitely be doing a second interrogation errr, I mean interview.

Guest Post: K from Down at Fraggle Rock

Hey There! I'm K from over at Down at Fraggle Rock. You may have seen me around these parts before since Megan and I are pretty close blog friends.

Megan has asked me to fill in for her while she is off to Hawaii (brat) awaiting the arrival of her bestie's new baby, so I'm here to talk about my favorite season...FALL!

I love me some Summer, don't get me wrong, but since my waist line is expanding by the day (I'm knocked up, not letting myself go! Haha) and I can no longer enjoy some ice cold Coors Light, I'll take sweaters and hot chocolate instead.

So... without further adieu... here are some of my most favorite Fall things.

(Oh, and I tried to make the pictures all pretty, but I'm home today and my computer is NOT my friend. This is why I usually blog from work...during non-working time of course...)

1. Spiced Pumpkin candles.

I love Fall scents. Flowery scents usually make my throat close, so when I can finally break out my Fall scents, I'm a happy girl. Especially now, when I think everything smells bad. They are a savior.

2. Bonfires.

I'm not a huge fan of fires in the Summer. It gets too hot. The Winter... is too cold. I don't want to be outside if I have to put on a jacket and a hat and mittens and boots and blah blah blah. Fall is perfect thought. If I can hang out in a hoodie, then I'm in.

3. Foliage.

I'm from Massachusetts and we have some pretty crazy weather. You know how they say, "Don't like the weather in New England? Wait a minute."? Yeah... that's pretty much true. So, our nice seasons are fleeting. Our winter last forever though, so if you like that then you will love it here. BUT, my most favorite thing is watching all of the leaves change into beautiful shades of red, gold, and orange. Gorgeous!

4. Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins.

These things are to DIE for. Shannon is one of my faves and she posted this recipe last year and I was hooked. They are super easy to make and Big A (my hunky husband) loves them, so I'm pretty much the best wife ever when I make them! Love, love, love!

5. Starbucks Sea Salted Caramel Mocha Latte.

Since I was watching my weight for the wedding, I got used to drinking Skinny Vanilla Lattes. They were OK, but now that I can have a little more freedom with what I eat, I wanted something delicious to drink while I could still afford to go to Starbucks. (Plus, let's be honest, Starbucks isn't the place for a screaming infant and we all know that my kid won't be well behaved in public places) I tried this one day, since I'm totally obsessed with Sea Salted Caramel Gelato (buy it NOW) and I LOVE it. I limit myself to only one (or two) a week though since they are a million calories and like five bucks. Woof.

6. Last, but not least... my boys... The Patriots.

I should have had this with the bonfire, since they go hand in hand in my world. We watch all of the games outside. ALL season long. Yeap. We are out there in the snow in January. It's an experience. Although, since I won't have the booze to keep me warm this year, I might be staying home. Haha. I love me some Patriots. And even though Gronk is out with an injury, Hernandez is in jail (idiot), and Megan stole my man Welker got traded, I'm still watching. I'm not as into it, but I'm there.

That's all I got for you today! I hope Megan is having an absolute blast in Hawaii and I can't wait to hear all about her trip!!!

Also, speaking of Fall Favorite Things, don't forget to enter the Fall Swap that Megan and I are hosting with two of our other awesome blog friends Britt and my fellow knocked up lady, Laura! Go here to enter!

I'm Going To Be An Aunt! AGAIN!!!

A few weeks back I got some of the best news from my Brother and Sister-In-Law! I'm going to be an Aunt! AGAIN!!

Source

I'm going to be an Aunt to a beautiful baby boy or girl sometime in March of 2014!! And I am so excited about it. This is baby #4 for my Brother and his Wife and according to them, the last. We are all just hoping it is a boy because if it isn't and they end up having four girls, I fear for my Brother's sanity!

Congrats again to my Brother and his Wife and their growing family! I can't wait to meet the new little one and spoil the crap out of them!

Guest Post: Britt from First Comes Love

Hi all, my name is Britt and I brain dump over at First Comes Love. I’ve been reading Megan’s blog for some time now and I was so happy to guest post for her!

Over the past year, I've had quite a bit of “firsts” – I got married and my husband and I bought our first home together. Now, we've been happily navigating the first few months of marriage and it’s been so wonderful. But that’s not the point of this post.

Megan loves fall, so what better topic to write about than what I love about fall? I think it’s safe to say that everyone loves this season. It’s wonderful to drive the winding roads littered with colorful leaves or even to just feel cold after the blistering heat of summer. I relish the first time I pull on boots and a light jacket. The air smells better – I personally am a fan of burning wood piles/leaves – everything is pumpkin flavored and it’s the precursor to my absolute favorite holiday…Christmas.

This year is going to be really, really special for us. We closed on our current home the day after Thanksgiving last year, so by the time we moved in, there was snow on the ground. I remember feeling for a while like it wasn’t real – like the place wasn’t ours. There was that short span of time where you feel like you’re house sitting and slowly learning all the weird quirks, noises, and personality pieces.

There’s the overwhelming ZOMGDECORATE feeling as you stare at all the blank walls, mind spinning with ideas but at a total loss of where to start.

There are weeks where your favorite sweatshirt still looks odd slung over that chair or you can’t find any of your proper pots & pans because you’re trying to remember where you put everything. The walls are now full but it’s still not quite home.

All the tiny trademarks of you are there but the feeling is still evasive. You feel almost guilty about it because you love where you’re living.

But then, we turn the corner. Maybe it’s because the dust finally settles but all of a sudden, avoiding the squeaky floorboard in the middle of the night is instinctual. You know the exact schedule to run the dishwasher and the washing machine with enough hot water to take a shower. The gas fireplace isn't so scary since you can actually work it without your husband’s help. All of a sudden, that place you used to call home? It seems like a distant memory.

We still have so much we want to do to our home, especially now that the feeling of home itself is with us. This house will see so many amazing things and hold so many memories for us. So, this fall is extra special, as our first in this home and as a married couple.

We spend the time daydreaming about all of the wonderful things the future holds but meanwhile, this fall is inching its way in. And with it comes an overwhelming urge to cozy us into this home – to organize closets, put the warm, comfy sheets on the bed, and tuck us until this brand new season that we can’t wait to fill with homemade apple and pumpkin pies, hot chocolate, and long wind-swirled walks.

For us, fall is the sign of new beginnings – firsts.

Just Stopping In

Happy Friday everyone! This post is being brought to you from Seattle, WA today! That's right. I am on my way to Hawaii! And yes, I realize that it is weird that I am flying through Seattle. But seeing as I am flying with Alaska Airlines, this doesn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

Anywho, I have already been on one flight today and now I am just waiting for my next flight which isn't for another two hours. And waiting for my ears to pop. It is seriously annoying. I have tried chewing gum, fake yawning and holding my nose and blowing. That only seemed to make it worse. Annoying!

But I digress. I just wanted to stop in and say hi! I will have a few posts for you guys next week, along with a few guest posts. Thank you again to those that are guest posting. But for the most part, I won't be around much. Sorry, but best friend time will be happening and the beach will be calling my name!

I hope you guys have a great weekend and I can't wait to tell you all about my trip.

Don't forget to sign up for our Fall Swap!

Car Accident

After 25 years of being accident free, my streak has come to an end. I was in my first car accident last Thursday.

Luckily no one was hurt and it wasn't my fault, so lucky for us our insurance isn't going to take the hit. It was pouring down rain because apparently Mother Nature thought it was a great day to be a bitch to our state and it was flooding every where. So I was already going pretty slow, but the person in front of me started to slow down because the upcoming intersection was flooding. So I started to slow down even more. I then looked in my rear view mirror and saw that the person behind me wasn't slowing down. And I just remember saying to myself "They are going to hit me" and then BAM! She rear ended me.

It wasn't a very hard hit, but it was enough to jar the car forward. So we both pulled over into the middle turn lane and turned on our hazards. Like I said it was pouring down rain, so I got out of my car with my umbrella in hand and went back to talk to the other driver. While I was standing there and getting her information, all of the cars on the opposite side of the road were spraying me with water. I think some of them were doing it on purpose because they weren't even slowing down. By the time I got all of her information and got back in my car, I was completely soaked from head to toe. Awesome!

Once we got home and got the car in the garage and out of the rain, we looked at the damage. There wasn't a ton. It is more cosmetic than anything, but we still filed a claim and are going to have it looked at because if something is broken on the bumper where it attaches to the car or something else like that, we don't want to have any issues down the road. Better safe than sorry. And when you see the pictures you are probably going to think that we are crazy for filing a claim for something so small. Trust me, I had a really hard time deciding if I should even file one, but I just want to make sure that nothing is broken that we can't physically see. Especially since this is the only car that we have at this point!

It was a very minor accident, but it was the first one I had ever been in, so of course I was a bit shaken up. I am just happy that no one was hurt and that our car has very minimal damage.

Have you signed up for our Fall Swap yet?

Weekend Recap

This past weekend was once again jam packed with fun and lots of running around.

Friday night I left work a few minutes early, picked up the Husband and then we headed down to my Niece's Fall Carnival. It was super crowded with lots of families and their kids, but my Nieces had an absolute blast in all of the bounce houses and slides that were set up every where. It was fun to watch them playing and having so much fun.

After the Fall Carnival, the Husband and I headed to Larkburger to get some food. I had never eaten there before but always wanted to try it. And I wasn't disappointed. It was very yummy!

After dinner we headed home and sat around the rest of the night while watching TV and playing video games.

Saturday morning I got up and got ready for the day and then headed out to run some errands. With my trip to Hawaii only being a few days away, I needed to go get a few essentials. So of course I went to Target. I swear I live there anymore. I got some shampoo, conditioner and other things of that nature. After that I went and got my eyebrows waxed, grabbed some Subway for lunch and then headed home.

Once I got home and ate, we headed out to run a few more errands. Our first stop was ULTA where we spent way too much money. But in our defense we really did need some of the stuff. While we were there I finally broke down and bought my first two bottles of Essie nail polish. Gasp! I know, I know. I am not big on buying expensive nail polish. I am kind of a cheap skate when it comes to that stuff. But  honestly after painting my nails with this stuff, I understand why people spend $8 a bottle on it. It goes on so smoothly and dries so damn quickly!!

After ULTA and a few other stops we headed home and vegged out for the rest of the night. I spent most of my evening organizing my box of nail polish. Good grief I didn't realize how much I had. I threw out a bunch of old stuff and then neatly organized everything else.

Sunday was again very busy. I got up and did our grocery shopping for the week. Then we headed up to Aurora to go see the Hubby's parents for a little bit. We had lunch with them and then we headed over to my Aunt and Uncle's house so that my Aunt could do my hair. It had been five months since I did anything to it and it needed to be cut and colored again so bad! My Aunt did a kick ass job as usual! Here are some pretty awful before and after pics. I forgot to get pictures of it down so you could really see the color. Oops!

After I was done with my hair, we had dinner with my Aunt and Uncle and then we headed back home. It was once again a busy weekend, but we had fun and got a lot of stuff done. Which is good because I have so much stuff to do this week before I leave on Friday that it would have been impossible to get everything done before I leave.

I hope you guys had a great weekend. And before I leave you for the day, a few little announcements/reminders.

Don't forget to sign up for the Fall Swap that K, Laura, Britt and myself are hosting! You can find everything you need to know about the swap right here!

Also, I am still in need of a few guest posts for while I am gone. If you are interested, please let me know. And remember, the topic is what you love about Fall!

Thanks in advance everyone and I hope to see you signed up for our Fall swap!

Birthdays & A Day To Remember

Today, September 13th is one of those days in my family that is supposed to be happy, but also has some sadness wrapped up in it.

20 years ago today, my little sister was born. Even though I didn't know her when she was born and didn't meet her until she was three or four, she is and will always be my little sister. We couldn't stand each other growing up, but over the last five or six years our relationship has grown and we love each other more than ever now.Yes, she drives me absolutely nuts sometimes, but hey, what are sisters for. I love you Rachelle and I hope that you have a great Birthday!

Also, I want to say Happy Birthday to my cousin Dom! I believe he is 9 today! I can't keep up anymore. All I know is he is getting big and growing up too fast. Happy Birthday Dom! I hope you have a great day!

And last but not least, today is also a really hard day because six years ago, my Grandpa Don passed away. It was such a hard thing to deal with. It was the second Grandparent that I had lost within a year and it is still something that I struggle with til this day. I miss talking to him on the phone. And I miss just sitting in a room with him and watching TV while he was passed out or reading in his chair. You don't realize all the little things you love about someone until they are gone.

I love you so much Grandpa and I miss you more and more with each passing day! I know that you have been looking down on us from Heaven and watching over us! And every time I see a small orange butterfly, I know that it is you letting me know that you are still with me everyday!

Guest Posts Wanted!

Yay! It's Thursday! Which means only one more day until the weekend. AND it also means that I leave for Hawaii in a week!! A week everyone!

With that being said, I am looking for a few bloggers to guest post while I am away. I am looking for three to five bloggers. And since the first day of Fall is on the 23rd and my guest posts will start going up on the 24th, I thought it would be a fun idea to have my guests write about what they love about Fall.

Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year, next to Christmas of course, so I think it will be a lot of fun to see what everyone else likes about this time of year.

If you are interested in guest posting for me while I am gone, either reply to this post or you can email me at mdvervaecke@gmail.com for more details.

Thanks in advance to those that are going to guest post. I really appreciate it and can't wait to see what you are going to write!

Weigh-In Wednesday

Happy Hump Day everyone! It's time for my weekly Weigh-In Wednesday post!

I am so excited to report that I actually had a great week! I have felt so great about all of the decisions that I made this past week. I mean I went to Chick-Fil-A and got grilled chicken nuggets and fruit for lunch one day. Usually if I would go there I would just get breaded chicken nuggets, fries and ranch to dip them in. So the fact that I did such a great job at getting something that was a million times healthier for me was a big win for me!

I have also been tracking and logging my food in My Fitness Pal every day! This has helped a lot! It really makes me look at what I am eating. And if I go over by a few calories, and I mean less than 50 over, I am not getting mad at myself. I know that it is going to happen occasionally, so I am trying to not let it affect how I feel about how well I am doing.

As far as my food goes this week, I haven't really been able to eat a whole lot. Like I said yesterday in my post, I had oral surgery on Monday so I have been having to eat a lot of soft foods like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, soups and applesauce. And not only that but I haven't really had much of an appetite because of my mouth hurting, so it has kind of been a blessing in disguise, haha!

Okay, let's get down to the numbers. When I stepped on the scale this morning, I weighed the exact same as last week. Which is really frustrating because I have been down all week long until today when I jumped back up. And although I haven't been able to work out, I have barely been able to eat, so it really doesn't make any sense! Oh well! I am not going to let this get me down. I have made some great progress this week with some of my habits and even though the scale isn't showing progress, I am going to hold my head high and be proud of what I have accomplished!

My Weekend Recap

Hello my lovely readers! I hope that you had a great weekend! Sorry this post is a day late, but seeing as how I didn't have to work yesterday, it was still technically my weekend. But I promise you shouldn't be jealous of why I didn't have to work, but I will get to that in a little bit.

Friday I got off work about an hour early. My boss told us all that we could leave early if we wanted, so of course we were all running out the door. I went and did a little bit of shopping before I had to go pick up the Husband. Oh, which reminds me, I never told you guys that my car has officially taken a crap, so we are down to one vehicle until we can come up with the rest of our down payment for a new car. But anywho, I picked up the Husband, we ran a few errands to Petsmart, World Market and King Soopers and then headed home to make dinner.

We made some delicious grilled chicken with grilled portabella mushrooms and grilled veggies. It was soooo good. Then we just sat around and watched TV and some movies for the rest of the night.

Saturday morning I slept in til about 11, which felt amazing. And then after spending the rest of the morning and part of the afternoon watching nothing but Harry Potter on ABC Family, Aran and I headed out to run a few more errands. We went to Petco where we bought Louie and our kitties some awesome Star Wars toys! And then we headed to Target where I spent at least an hour in the dressing room trying on shorts and swim suites(gah!) because I am in desperate need of a few more pairs of shorts and new suite to take to Hawaii in a few weeks.

After about an hour and a zillion items of clothing later, I found a few that I was comfortable with and called it good. After we went through the checkout, we stopped and grabbed some food and then headed home. As soon as I got home I decided it was time for a nap. So I proceeded to pass the eff out for a few hours and then woke up around 7 pm.

After waking up I got ready to head downtown to meet my friend KB to go watch the Rapids play the L. A. Galaxy. It was a great game and we won 1-0. After that I went home and headed to bed.

Sunday was a somewhat lazy day for us. We got up and ran to the grocery store to do our grocery shopping for the week. After that we sat around the house. We watched some more Harry Potter along with some football. Even though the Broncos played on Thursday and whooped some Raven ass, we watched more for our fantasy players. Eli Manning was giving me a damn heart attack! Three interceptions! Three! But I guess I can't be too mad because I still got almost 44 points out of him. But, I digress.

I also made a couple of batches of Rhubarb Rhumble Sunday night and it turned out so so so so good! And of course I cleaned up the kitchen and did a few other things around the house.

Monday morning I got to sleep in a little bit later than usual. Not much, but a little. And then I had to get up and get ready to head to the Oral Surgeon. A little bit of a back story, last year I had to have a tooth pulled because of some issues with a root canal that I had when I was in High School. Because of where the tooth was and the type of issues it could cause if we didn't put anything in it's place, I elected to get a dental implant. So Monday was the day that I was scheduled for it.

I got to the office about fifteen minutes before my appt, got checked in, paid an outrageous amount of money and then waited for my name to be called. Once I got back there they put an IV in my hand and started the meds to get me sedated. I wasn't looking forward to this part. But honestly within five minutes of that IV being in, I was out! I don't remember anything until I started waking up about an hour later.

Well come to find out, they weren't able to do the implant. When they got in there, the bone graft that was done on my jaw last year when my tooth was pulled wasn't in the proper shape to be able to do the implant. So the oral surgeon had to re-do the bone graft, stitch me back up and call it good. So now, I have to wait another four months before they will be able to see if the bone graft healed correctly so that I can go ahead and get the implant done.

Top Left: Right after I woke up. Bottom Left: In the car on the way home. Top Right: Last night once I started feeling better. Middle Right: My IV and hooked up to all the machines. Bottom Right: Asleep on the floor while Sheldon snuggles up next to me.
This whole process has been a long and frustrating process and I thought I was going to be one step closer to being done with this, but nope. I have to wait longer. Oh well, I would rather it be done correctly than not done at all. So I spent the rest of my Monday coming out of the anesthesia, sleeping, trying to eat and being in pain. Thank goodness for pain meds or omg I would be in a world of hurt.

So that was my weekend. Some fun and some relaxation along with some not so much fun, but overall it was a good weekend. It was way too hot here, but that looks to be changing this week. Eeeek!!! Fall weather is coming. How was everyone else's weekend? Do anything fun?

Food Frustration & Cooking Nights

Recently I was having a conversation with my friend, who I will call KB, about how we are frustrated with food. We are both trying to eat healthier and exercise more, so naturally this topic comes up quite often.

We started talking about how we get so burnt out on the healthier foods that we do know how to prepare and then feel like we don't have anything to make for dinner because we are so sick of the same thing over and over again. We also discussed how we have to give up so many things that we like to eat like Taco Bell or Chick-Fil-a and that without anything good to replace them, we still find ourselves wanting those types of food in our life. And obviously if you are wanting to eat healthy, exercise and actually lose weight, you can't have those types of food in your diet.

After talking about these things for a while, we decided to start having a cooking night once or twice a month. We are going to start searching the internet(probably Pinterest) for healthy recipes that could act as alternatives to some of the foods that we miss and crave on a regular basis. We will make these recipes, maybe even tweak them a bit, and see what we like and don't like. And if we do find a recipe that we like, we can then add it to our repertoire of meals that we can make, enjoy, and not feel bad about eating.

Here is where I would love to hear from you guys. I would love for you to submit your favorite healthy recipes for us to try our hand at. The only two things that I ask is that they 1) don't have bread in them or have some type of bread substitute and 2) they don't contain potatoes, unless it is sweet potatoes. Those are two of the main things that we have both tried to take out of our diets so we are trying to find alternatives to these even.

If you have a recipe to submit, please email it to the address that is listed on the Contact link on the top of this page. And of course if you submit a recipe and we cook it on one of our nights, I will definitely be blogging about it so that you guys can see how it turned out.

I can't wait to see what we come up with and how many great new recipes we will find in the process.

Weigh In Wednesday

It has been two weeks since I did a Weigh In Wednesday post. Probably because I know that I have failed miserably over the past few weeks.

I don't know what has gotten into me but recently I just can't seem to keep up with the healthy eating. Even though every time I get on the scale I want to kick myself. You would think that would be enough of a wake up call, but for some reason it hasn't been. Probably because I haven't been getting on the scale every day like I should. Again, failing miserably.

Instead of sitting here and pouting about it, I am just going to suck it up. I have to realize that I am not always going to do the right thing or eat the right things in this case. But being pissed at myself isn't going to change that. I need to push past it and just remember that tomorrow is a new day. And I can only try again to become a better me.

I did get on the scale this morning. 217.2. Which means I am up 3lbs. Bleh! But at least I got on the scale. That is a feat in itself. I just need to keep getting on the scale.  The more I get on the scale and don't like what I see, the more likely I am to do something about it.

Okay, I am done sounding like a broken record for the day. Hope you guys are having a great Hump Day! And I hope to have better news to report next week!
